Christopher Nolan’s movie “Oppenheimer” is continuing to break box office records worldwide, in just its second month of release. It’s the fourth highest-grossing film of the year so far. “Oppenheimer” has now secured a spot in the top five R-rated movies of all time.
Last Friday, the movie crossed the $700 million milestone in theaters all around the world. By the end of its fifth week, Oppenheimer collected a total of $718 million globally. Whereas, domestically it has earned $286 million, and $433 million from overseas territories so far, this adds up to almost $720 million worldwide. Due, to this achievement it secured the fifth spot of R-rated movies ever. Oppenheimer moved ahead of the 2017 blockbuster Horror movie “IT”, which finished its total run of $701 million worldwide.
Right now there are four movies ahead of “Oppenheimer” in the list of top R-rated movies. The fourth movie is “The Matrix Reloaded” with $738 million. Third “Deadpool” with $781 million. Second “Deadpool 2” with $786 million, and at the First position “Joker” with $1.066 billion. Considering the current situation, it’s very likely that “Oppenheimer” will surpass the earnings of the two “Deadpool” movies and “The Matrix Reloaded” before it finishes its run in theaters. This would make Oppenheimer the second-highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, just behind “Joker”.

The movies ahead of it are at Sixth “Deadpool 2” with $324 million, Fifth “It” with $328 million, Fourth “Joker” with $335 million, Third “American Sniper” with $350 million, Second “Deadpool” with $363 million, and First “The Passion of the Christ” with $370 million in its home country. In the next few days, Oppenheimer might be spotted in the top five R-rated movies.
